Rob, as usual your ignorance speaks volumes.
There have been Republics, Democracies, and Democratic Republics since the beginning of nations. We have and have had since the founding of the nation a Republic, that is what it is called and that is what it legally is. It is a democratic republic in that the greater majority of the population has the franchise whereas in some the franchise, if there were one belonged only to a restricted class.
