One method is to go in right away with two witnesses and attempt to pay the fine. The ticket most likely hasn't been processed or put in the system. If your payment is refused for any reason, according to the Uniform Commercial Code it is then discharged.
There is also;
- Accepted for Value
- Refused For Cause (this has the 72 hour window)
- Conditional Acceptance - Notary Protest
