At the Movies

What is your favorite movie of all time and what are some good movies that you have seen recently?

My favorite of all time would have to be BladeRunner. This film is science fiction but it also delves into pschology(nature vs nurture), philosophy (epistomology), and ethics. I liked the hidden message that, in a way, we are all replicants. At least, if we are not replicants, how would we really know since it is possible that our memories are really just implants. Very good acting, especially by Rutger Hauer.

Some recent movies (DVD's) that I really liked are:

The Passion - I still thought that Jesus looked a little too European though. Very realistic looking otherwise. I hope Mel makes the sequel.

Master and Commander- not enough sea battles though

Last Samurai - I wonder if this portrayed a true picture of the Japanese Samurai. They seemed so gentle and loving heh heh. Anyone ever see the Seven Samurai? I thought maybe that movie might be a little more true to life.

Gangs of New York- Although not a true story as a whole, it still contained historical people and events. Excellent acting and realistic looking scenery. Ugly period of American history but shows that politics has not changed what so ever.

Shattered Glass- the true story of a writer for The New Republic magazine. Great acting and true to life portrayal of the real story. DVD includes the interview with Glass on 60 minutes. It really blows you mind.

The Reckoning- Medieval murder mystery with a very good Christian flavor. Again, great acting and realistic looking scenery.

Lady Killers- Another great Tom Hanks movie. I thought it was hilarious. His character was great.
