Role models are presented as examples of success. Both Mandela and Gandhi rose to the top of the heap (so to speak) no matter what politics or ideas got them there. They both were imprisoned in the process and yet there was no similar stigma to them that you appear to be laying on Elvick. Not that there is the slightest hint that Elvick has political asperations.

Hitler, Stalin and Nixon might also be considered role models; there is no indication that they were ever imprisoned however. They all should have been imprisoned but then that is a personal view. From their perspective they were successful for a period and then their day was done.
