It's good that you did not get arrested...it's a pain in the ass to arrange for bail...but might I make a suggestion?
Do as I did...get a license to carry a concealed handgun in public. (Assuming your state issues them; most do.) That way, you can be armed against potential attackers without having people call the cops saying, "There's a guy with a gun over here!" They won't be able to see the gun when you carry it concealed.
