I am not sure about the Netherlands but the government in France is similar to ours in the respect that it is all about control. Why go there?

Several years ago a friend of mine and I were very close to moving to Belize.
Check them out. They were once British Honduras. the people gained there independence from Britain in 1982 or 83. The american dollar is strong there 2 to our 1 and there are no income taxes at all. Banking is pretty private. In fact about 20,000 americans are retiring there each year. Property is very reasonable. They are also the only english speaking country in South America.
Belize city its self is quite poor and the housing is poor but the streets are vitually empty of any litter...messy but very clean. Most americans are retiring in place like Ambergis Caye and Caye Caulker. They are also host to hundreds of cruise ships every year.
They have the largest living barrier reef in the western hemisphere and the 2nd largest in the world. Great diving and fishing. Jack Costeau did a large part of his films there. I am telling ya check it out if you are serious.

My wife and I have been going there once a year for several years now. We are going again in April and will probably look at some property again.
