I finally put my mother-in-law on notice: Never, ever, for the rest of my life, invite me to, ask me to participate in, expect to me show anything except total disdain for, anything and everything designed to elicit a teary-eyed, flag-waving, patriotic response from me.
And besides, Jon, you're not supposed to actually know the rules. Just do what you're told the rules are by those who say they know what the rules are. How dare you question anything!
