I know I will regret this response but here goes. I had no choice in the courts being involved. I tried talking to my child's mother 3 to 4 times before the courts were involved. The courts primarily became involved (through the Department of Revenue) because my child's mother decided she would try and raise 3 children alone (2 were from a previous relationship) without getting employment for the first several months following our separation. Yes, I could have gone and taken my child from her at that point, but then I would have been up on charges of kidnapping. The state would have "shot" first and asked questions later. You and I both know that.
So what was I supposed to do? What can I do now?
