No Zip Codes!
It's a little easier in the country, albeit, but I've been calling for our First Class Matter for about four (4) years, now, at the general post-office (not General Delivery).
I don't use a zip-code except on occasion within brackets, since the importance is on how you receive your matter, not how you send it. If they (the receiver) don't use a simplified address (one without numbers or abbreviations), and they're in commerce, then they have to use the zip.
It was rough at first to give up the P.O. Box, and butt heads with the Post Master (Mistress), who first implied that I could only use the "General Delivery" for thirty (30) days, even though she meant that she could only hold my "mail" for 30 days before sending it back, unless she was previously notified that I might be out of the country for longer, or something like that.
The other head butt was using the Post Office general designation of "general post-office" instead of the USPS created commercial term "General Delivery." She told me that I couldn't receive mail using that term, and I pointed out that I already had (holding up a few letters), "so somebody must know how to get ahold of me here." She was at a lost for words for a few mili-seconds (although I could tell on her face that it seemed like an eternity), and she replied with the best that she could by saying that she would treat my mail like "General Delivery," meaning that she would send it back after 30 days if I did not call for it.
Unfortunately, for her, a sibling passed away, so I took the opportunity (and truly meant) to console her with a letter (sent to her at "general post-office"). Ever since then we have been buddy-buddy and on great terms.
Take the opportunity to care for those behind the desk, if you can. YHWH opens their hearts when they see that you care. It was really amazing to see it all happen before my eyes. Praise to Him! Hope this helps.
