I am Sooooo Glad you brought this up.
There is NO new testament directive OR command to tithe. THe new testament tells us to give, but not to a church or a 501(c)(3).
Tithing is a LIE of the modern day charlatans known as pastors. I have sat under MANY pastors, and I have yet to meet one who will, when faced with the truth of the word, receive it with meekness. Every one I have shown a problem that their ministry had in the word has bucked up and kicked.
Go back and read in Acts how the church started out. They sold ALL their possessions and gave them away, and there was one purse. They then re-distributed to every man as he had need, and there was no lack among them.
If you tithe, you are NOT doing it out of a biblical command. The Levitical priesthood is not in existence today, at least in America, and we are not under the law anyway.
I know this is a rant, but I am TIRED of seeing the church (it's not a building) lied to and powerless.
Pastors preach that we are "robbing God" when we don't tithe. They are really the ones robbing God, by buying Lexus' and putting Marble foyers in, and Gold leaf paing on the wall while the orphans are cared for by the state (unbiblical) and the poor and widows are left to fend for themselves.
It's the same as what we here at this board are seeing. Life in the status quo will get you by, but what about when the Sh** hits the fan?
THen you need the real power.
First Baptist won't cut it.
I am very convinced that 80% of what goes on inside a churchs walls is not based on biblical authority, and designed to do one thing: Bring in more money.
Ok, I'm done for now, but be careful, I might raise up my ugly head again.
Thanks to this thread, I am changing my tag line to:
AMERICA'S CHURCHES: PRETTY, BUT POWERLESS.
