Re:Religion Spell of ignorance
Does this count?
In '78 I was a correctional officer here in the ******* of the Universe known as Virginia. Incarcerated there was an inmate named Flood. He was a Muslim. Now, this was during my most evangelical, born-again days! Gonna save the world, etc.
Inmate Flood was locked in solitary one weekend. He and I were discussing religious stuff. (He really was a nice enough chap, so please keep that in mind.) Well, at one point, he proceeded to show me what was supposed to be an "actual" photograph of a white baby before it had its tail cut off! (Stop laughing and keep reading.)
Right. According to Inmate Flood, white folks came from the inbreeding of blacks (who were the original race) with wild dogs, and eventually the result was white babies with dog-like tails.
Well, before I could even think about the consequences of my actions (which is Randy-law number 1!), I burst into laughter. Inmate Flood did not react well to this. In fact, he set his mattress and pillow on fire.
When his cell was filled with smoke, he screamed and yelled for help, and asked me to help him.
"No, Sir," said I. "You set the fire. You deal with it."
Oh well. Others did come to his aid.....
True story.....
