The whole bus exchange you have documented shows the apathy rampant in society today. The bus driver just wants a paycheck. "I don’t want no trouble" meaning anything to come between me and my paycheck. He doesn’t care what happens on "his" coach as long as it doesn’t involve him. When someone who does care about the environment around himself and others on the coach takes steps to maintain civility and courtesy it is a shock to the CNS of everyone on board. Yes, they are thankful that someone took action but it is just a little odd for society today. Everyone likes nice clean city streets but will not take action to keep them clean. It is one think to not throw a candy wrapper on the ground, and it is quite another to pick someone else’s up. Also I think the bus scenario demonstrates how people feel/or wait for someone with authority to act and save them. You know that everyone on that bus shares it and has the authority to admonish unruly behavior. I really appreciate you sharing this experience with us.
