I plug purslane too. Google it and there are convincing studies indicating it can stop the progression of breast cancer. So I imagine it is a powerful preventive herb as well, for all kinds of cancer. The vitamin breakdown is really what convinces one to learn how to recognize this weed.

It grows all over the place and in the most absurdly difficult conditions. So in any doomsday scenario since purslane is all over the place, it is easy to envision grazing as you go, just eating this succulant as you walk.

I froze a few pounds to get me through the winter and when harvesting I will thrash the seeds out in a grocery bag before I wash it. Then throw the seeds in a corner of an empty lot nearby for next year. It is so sturdy one should be careful not to harvest near public school playgrounds because it easily survives many pesticides like diazynone and so look for it in abandoned areas.

Note that pigweed looks a lot like purslane. Pigweed is toxic and hard on the kidneys so be careful. Pigweed is not a succulent; therefore it has no hollow, wet stem like purslane. Pigweed has a much harder red stem.

Purslane is delicious with its lemony-oily flavor complimenting Ranch Dressing. It compliments eggs too. I sprinkle the frozen harvest on cereal for breakfast. It works like a laxative but your system should grow quickly accustomed to that. If you are getting on in years you may notice the prostate regains its youthful behavior, like sleeping through the night and even waking without having to pee.
