It's really sad how much America is brainwashed regarding pharmaceuticals versus nutraceuticals, herbal and homeopathic remedies. Why don't people consider that maybe God provided all the things we humans need in a natural way to survive the earths diseases and maintain health in our lives? Man lived good and healthy lives long before chemistry was even invented. Of course those who do not believe the Biblical account would disagree as well as would those who don't believe in God at all. I suppose that this is somewhat of a faith issue. Yet so many will put into their bodies many of these poisonous chemicals without hesitation, just because someone labeled "doctor" tells them to do so (without even a second opinion. I guess this is where they place their faith. Chemotherapy is just one very good example of this: while it tries to poison the cancer, it poisons the entire body in the process, weakening the immune system. Although I do realize they are getting more skilled at how they do it, in many cases not only is the cancer killed, but the patient is as well since with their drastically weakened immune system, they wind up becoming very susceptible to many of the other diseases out there, thereby destroying some other organ (or severely damaging it) in their body during the process. I AM NOT SAYING MEDICAL SCIENCE IS ALWAYS WRONG AND SHOULD NEVER be relied upon, but what I am saying is that it should never be taken for granted and that it is always better to use alternatives when available and that one should make wise decisions and not just rely on one doctors opinion (get several) and what's better, rely on the creator (assuming that one believe's they have a creator). For those who do have a relationship with their creator, you might be surprised, He may advise you to follow the doctors oreders. So for those who believe in natural healing alone, I would caution you there as well. I have seen too many cases where believers took that approach and the results were catastropic. Yet I have probably seen more cases where people used medicine and got bad doctor's advice and things turned out just as bad. That is why the Bible teaches Gods people that they are to have wisdom and discernment in all things and are not to be presumptuous by taking certain things for granted. What's interesting is that more and more doctors are seeing this (the advantages of natural methods of healing) and are actually turning to some of these alternatives and recommending them to their patients (rather than strong medications or the knife) as they see the light and realize that natural alternatives are usually way less problematic (and in some cases even more effective) in certain circumstances and are thus making them part of their repertoire. That is, those who are more concerned for their patients than the AMA and the Prescription Medicine Companies. It is probably also worthy to note how many of the Pharmaceutical companies are in fact diversifying and putting out their own vitamins and herbal labels which you can now find on the shelves of just about any drugstore and supermarket in anticipation of some of the changes which are taking place in the health and wellness arena.
Here's some good books on this from a Biblical perspective:
