I suspect that because judges have so much accumulated power virtually given to them, (they coerced actually) they can use their knowledge of law and access to it outcome almost "blackmail" any, governmental official unless meet their match.
I believe they respect each others power and try not to infringe on each others paths.
That is why it's so tough to get anything done vs. judges.
They find ways to divide the sphere of influence by the territory so to say.
Ability of judges to issue decisions that are, practically, unchallenged is out of control.
Appeals involve their kind, once again.
No group of people should, ever, be given supreme control as dictatorship on some level would follow as the consequence.
Only individuals of truly, high moral standards and virtues with true and genuine Honor can handle such power.

These are
basic tests for what judges or any one with Authority stand for.
Only a
very clever sociopath or psychopath can beat that test but they are much more rare, as the majority of judges are too blunt and arrogant to conceal or, even, consider how they are viewed by public.
They just don't give a damn.
I must add that the real dilemma is not judges but whoever gains power and how power is handled.
Common people who gain to such power too quickly often become tyrants themselves.
I would use a brief example.
I believe that on some Forum mentioned on this Website, the quest for power and control went so far that the Moderator, there, has began putting her, own Avatars on members she dislikes and attempting to present highly intelligent members as fools.
Such person may even criticize judges, while acting not any better than most of them.
Power is that Lord of the Rings...
