Personally...If given a choice...I'd prefer to wear a parachute prior to exiting a perfectly good airplane while in flight....and for sure, do prefer to utilize the same sort of precaution upon entering a powered rolling coffin....

Is this defiance, or simply a lack of common sense??

Doesn't matter if there is some "law" requiring it.

For those who have never been subjected to the consiquences, get in your rolling coffin, don't use the restraints, get going about 30, (no cheating with using the brakes) slam your coffin into the side of a concrete building....after you wake up (if you're lucky)...bet you wish you would have used some common sense...
