The "digital age" as some call it is all debits and credits on a digital ledger.
I used to play a D&D (Dungens and Dragons) type role playing game called Rifts. It took place in the past a nd the futurestic socities. In the futuristic fiction of the game, there was a monatary system. The system used "credit sticks".
The "credit stick" was activated by the finger print and transfered credits from one stick to another.
Keep in mind that this was a game, and during one session of the game, our group of players had robed a bunch of credit sticks, and knowing that we needed the thumb print to activate the sticks transfer ability, we also took the thumbs. I know its kind of morbid, but hey, it was a fanticy role playing game...
The point of the story is that it isn't going to be Euros, it is all shifting to credits...
In fact, it already has... who dosn't make use of a credit stick..err I mean card?
When will they be able to embed the finger print identification tech into the card, or more likely the register where people swipe the card... the tech already exists, its just a matter of deployment at this point. Can your Palm Pilot transfer credits? It already has the "touch screen" tech... not to hard to upgrade it with the finger print tech as well...
You will see the upgraded systems start to appear at your local grocery store because food is a basic need and will be the first place that any main stream deployment will happen.
There will also be some test bed deployment, I can't really say what or where, but I would speculate that it will be tested at the electronic stores because its the theam already in place and won't be too shocking to the people... I can see the ad hook now.. "Come try out the new tech at the Frys electronics" "Experience the New & Improved Secure Credit System at Circut City today!!! All people making SCS purchaces will recieve a 10% discount" "Upgrade you Palm Pilot with SCS tech for only 100.00c"
