How many are using eGold or eBullion, or know people who have used them?

being able to store one's money in e-gold or silver seems pretty awesome. but naturally there's the "trust" factor of dealing with 'new entities' and especially foreign ones.

has anyone on the forum used their services .. or at least personally know of people who use them?

I do not know of anyone personally who uses e-gold or e-bullion, only have seen the advertisements for them. With that said, I believe the best way to handle gold or, silver, for that matter, is get the coins or bars then, store them where one can have total access to them at anytime for any reason, simply just because.

well theres certainly nothing better than having it your hand! but i can see tremendous value in also being able to trade them in commerical transaction, AND CONVERT THEM to regular $$ when needed. lets face it - buying things and having to ship gold or silver coins back and forth over long distances just doesnt cut it.

i think its quite possible a lot of people/businesses/countries will be switching to currencies and e-currencies based on gold and silver .. like really soon.

I agree that such a means to everyday business would be considerably easier, but I'm suspicious of it, for several reasons. 1)if a crash were to occur, how long would one be out?, 2) would one really want their financial information that available, one could lose, one could have it stolen, 3)would one want that much/kind of information available period?

Having such a scenario would be touted as being very portable, and I truly could easily see it being so, but in the long, for most people, how portable would one really need their day to day transactions to be? The majority of people are a local people. It is because of that and the fact I really do not trust such a scenario that I would like to keep as local as possible and in keeping it local I really mean transactions with real coins/bars.

But that's me.

Might be a simple solution to buy a currency that is backed by metals.

There are 22 Islamic counties that use metals as a basis for their currency. The EU even has the Euro backed with 10% metals.

e-gold is notorious for vulnerability to hacking and fraud. e-bullion has a cryptocard system for making account access virtually bulletproof. In both cases the jurisdiction where the gold is being held is a concern - at least to me.
