Fading away, harder than it looks.
Well, the effort to disappear into obscurity is harder than it sounds or looks.
Chiefly, I have three hurdles I'm dealing with.
1. I had to use my SSN to get an EIN for a LLC I'm using for my means of living. The "client" pays my LLC. The LLC pays me after deducting all "business expenses." I work for it as an independent contractor. This, at least, lets me take advantage of putting all reasonable and necessary "business expenses" against my gross and letting me be compensated for my input with whatever is left over. Result, lower tax burden.
2. If you want to just stop filing tax returns, how do you do that? I get the point that if you're paying $$$ to the IRS, not filing doesn't mean you are trying to evade taxes, you just aren't filing anymore. This means they keep whatever gets taken from you....even if they aren't entitled to it.
3. How do you make your permanent mailing address go down the "memory hole." With the junk mail I'm getting, I realize it's true that the US Postal Service sells your forwarding information to people. I got a P.O. Box and have all needful mail going "care of" that box, but now I need to submit a forwarding address that makes everything else go bye, bye to Neverland. I'm having trouble working that out. Finding a "dead end" address to permanently forward my junk mail is hard to come by.
Any tips?
P.S. On my LLC idea, I'm weighing the idea of just letting it die at the end of the year and make a new one (NM perhaps) to keep things in the air. I'm inclined to keep the LLC's bank account open so that a business can receive money and cut checks (all I need is a stamp making any check received payable to the LLC for deposit only). Even though the EIN of the LLC is linked to my SSN, IIRC the LLC's assets are separate from anything under my SSN, and the LLC's account does not have my SSN directly listed on it. The EIN/SSN cross-reference would have to be done elsewhere.
P.P.S. I did find a mail service in Oregon that lets you rent a box for $10/month. I could do that for "neverland" but the snafu is WHAT IF something important gets sent there. They do have a forwarding service, but I don't want my junk mail sent to me. I wonder if they will only send something if it looks important/official to my c/o P.O. Box where I get my normal mail. Sounds like a plan or bad idea?

What's the name of the mail service?
Post it if you can, and any contact info...

The business is called "The Other Mail Service" at 1115 Madison Street, N.E. in Salem, OR 97303. Thier phone number is 503-363-9630 or 800-368-5728.
You have to file a PS Form 1583 like any other PO Box, but they let you do it from someplace else so long as copies of needed documents are submitted with a notary seal that the copies are authentic.
The base charge is $10/month. Discounts if you rent for 6 months or 1 year in advance. Supposedly, they have mail forwarding for an additional fee.
I was careful about what I was asking for. Didn't know what they were or were not willing to be a party to.
It almost inspires me to do my own business where you basically make a "memory hole" for permanent change of addresses. For a fee, all stuff that comes in goes right into a shredder unless instructions are made to the contrary (after all, you do the whole "permanent change of address" thing to get the junk and mailing list stuff away from where you get your important mail). I would want anything that seems important forwarded to my c/o PO Box, but not the obvious junk.

Macerico,
It seems to me that you might be able to give them a list of what you want forwarded. Maybe they would be willing to do that for you, perhaps for an additional fee.
As for the SSN problem, maybe you could form more than one LLC and possibly use the first LLC EIN to get started on the second. I don't know if that would work although this I believe is how the big boys do it (or used to do it). This could at least setup multiple levels which would be more difficult to get back at you. Outside of getting a second SSN (which is probably illegal) I don't know what else you might do.

Macerico, I thought you read Luna's H2BI. He has a great tip of the memory hole. I've been doing it successfully - for free. The place I forwarded it to had the balls to look up my name (this was when everything was in transition-phone is now no longer in my name) and call for me.
I replied that Mr. Weishaupt is no longer "residing" "in the STATE OF FLORIDA".
All legal terms of course

I did read it, but I must be missing this. I know he said to forward stuff to someplace, but I don't know exactly what you are referring to. Can you post the page it was on....I must be missing it. :(

Now I feel stupid.
I had that page marked.
Okay. You have to do the permanent change on thier card because online, it checks and flags it as a CMRA.
I was having problems doing this part....I suppose I should have just not tried doing it online.

WITHOUT PREJUDICE
Dont forget that you can contact companies sending you junk mail directly and order them to stop sending the mail. Also, you can also contact those sending important mail and have them redirect mail withou filing a mail forwarding document with the USPS. Who said you only had to use the USPS to redirect or mail or correct mail addresses? Sure it might be a very handy service but its not the only option.
Dont forget you can write NOT DELIVERABLE AS ADDRESSED on mail and/or REFUSED FOR CAUSE and send it back. If junk mail for example you can do that and write them tell them stop sending mail to you. Perhaps even send them an offer that they can keep sending junk mail as long as they pay you $20 in silver coin for each piece of mail matter they send (you might want to make sure make sure the legal department and the execs. get copies). Lovely aint it?

But the idea is to not receive the "benefit" of free home delivery as you will be presumed to be roped into the common law maxim as in my sig line below
