The trolling Bank of America!

I noted an interesting email this morning. This came from "Military Bank of America" and under the subject, "Your card is limited for online use".

Quote:
Continuous Monitoring is an integral part of Bank of America's multiple layers of security. In addition to other fraud monitoring tools, we can often spot fraud based upon transactions on the card that are outside of cardholders typical purchasing pattern. This allows us to spot fraudulent activity as quickly as possible and acts as an early-warning system to identify fraudulent activity.

During a recent checkout we detected suspicious activity and your Card may have been compromised. Fraudulent activity made it necessary to limit your card for online services. Conform to our security requirements and in order to continue online services with your card, we must validate your identity. Please use our link below to proceed.

Bank of America takes online security very seriously so that you can shop safely on the Internet. As part of our commitment to fighting fraud we have the right to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, or violations of the terms and conditions for using Bank of America U.S.A.

Since I have no account there, I presume this offer is open to you all too. Click the link and give Bank of America all your legal information/identity today! They are militarizing as we speak...

Regards,

David Merrill.

The e-mail in question did not come from B of A.

It is a scam email, otherwise known as phishing, to see if you are stupid enough to give them your personal banking information.

Agreed. This is a scam. The banks don't do such business via email.

When I followed the link from http://www.bankofamerica.com under Logon to other Services > Military Bank Online - the page even warns of the scam.

Banks and/or credit card companies, or just businesses in general will not send out general e-mails of this type.

If you ever get anything like this it should be directed to your real name, never your e-mail account name, and should have some other identifier on it like a partial account number or some such, and then they will have you go to their regular website or call them, but should never ask you to contact them through that e-mail.

These are very dangerous, new version of never give out your personal information over the telephone, internet is even more dangerous.

This does kind of beg the question of: What is the difference between the Military Bank and Normal Bank accounts?

David, Prehaps this is more on point with you intent of posting the info... you don't seem to be one taken in by scams.

This is mix of speculation and wishful thinking, yet prehaps they are laying the groundwork to defend aginst the foreign agents of the IMF.

Look closely. I have figured these phishing expeditions for some time now. So I suppose that if anyone was silly enough to click on the link with the intent to give them free private information, they really are not suijuris chat material.

As far as intent; I felt it interesting enough phishing to share - especially since it spoofed Bank of America.

David Merrill.

P.S. This is not BofA:

Play Time

Yup..these "phishing expeditions" can also be "FUN"..

Should one have the time, (or are "bored"), select the "link" embedded in the e-mail, or if daring, click on it...no real harm..'cause...guess what???....it's play time...

Just start entering non-descript information....ie: for your Slave Number, enter something like 987-65-4321..pick some crazy address: 00120 SSE Nowhere Ave, ****spickle AT, 00001-1111...pick a name...any name...Jo Bob Squatandpoop.....birth date 00/00/0000...

you get the idea.......
