Question Never had this credit card

I received a phone call about 2-3 weeks ago with a very belligerent lady/girl telling me I had to pay for a credit card I never had. I have since received two collection letters. The "original creditor" is Captial One Bank for a Mastercard. The lady also told me that I had made payments on this card until 2002. Incidently from July 2000-September 2001 I didn't have a job and the job that I did manage to get only lasted a few months and I did not make any credit card payments to the 3 cards I did have and none of them were a Capitol One card. I have since been approved for a Capitol One Visa and have done well in payments. I told this person that I might send them a VOD and her statement back to me was, "Good, you do that so you can see your own handwriting and also know like me you're lying!" I was apalled at her desperate attempts of being a butt to me. I also told her that I had never had this card and that maybe my identity was stolen. She laughed and said repeat that...I obliged infactually stating "I HAVE NEVER HAD A CAPITOL ONE MASTERCARD IN MY LIFE!"
So my question is do I send them a VOD or just a request for proof of my signature? BTW, the debt collector is Northland Group, Inc out of Edina, Minnesota. (MN)
Any ideas here? Thanks in advance.

You need to inform them not to call you anymore that you will only communicate by mail and have a recorder handy to record their verbal abuse. Thats a FDCPA violation. This is just some loser working on making her commision check and most likely has a certain number of calls to make in per shift. VOD is certainly something you should pursue since this isn't your debt. If you start to recieve calls/letters from some collection/debt attorney in your state then they are getting ready to sue. Monitor your local court just make sure there are no actions pending against you that were not informed of. This is important. If they get a Summary Judgement against you(your debt or not) they will steal anything that you may have in the bank after 28 days.
