4 Collection Agencies collecting on same debt

Helping my sister work through some problems. She received letters from 4 different collection agencies within 6 months, all trying to collect on the same debt (~$500).

This would seem to be highly illegal. I know how to send them the "go-away" letter. Is there anyway that there can be some $$ in this for her, based on their actions?

If so, how would I pursue?

Thanks,

Theres a good chance that all of these so-called different collection agencys are in reality owned by the same creepy debt attorney firm? They(debt attorneys) will own many 'subsidiarys' that they masquarade as 'seperate' corporations so they can skirt the law that prevents them from pursuing collection efforts until one of these 'companys' actually hires/assigns them to the attack. Those laws they are skirting originaly were put in place to protect the consumer but leave it to slim balls to figure a way around it. Heck I'm sure they had it all worked out well before the FDCPA laws went into effect.
