Where can you get a safe bank account and credit card? (no SSN)

I do a lot of online selling and purchasing, and this basically requires a bank account and credit card/check card. Are there any banks in the country that are safe to put your money in and dont require an SSN? Or is it a better idea to utilize offshore banking from Belize or the Bahamas or whatnot? I will probobly use E-gold as much as possible, but thats only as good as the number of E-gold members, which is not many.
