Who gave the Credit Report Agency the Right?

I have a question that i wonder if it has been discussed on this forum before. What gives the credit reporting agencies the right in the first place to report your personal information? When you apply for credit, i know you sign a agreement for the creditor to pull up your credit file, but where is the contract between you and the bureau which gives them permission to have a file on you in the first place? And, if they claim they have the right, can't you rescind that right? Isnt your ssn protected by the privacy act? What gives them permission to use it?

Also, it says all over the code that harming a persons reputation is not allowed.& So, if not to harm your reputation then what are they for.

Harrassment or abuse
The use or threat of use&of violence or other criminal means to harm the physical person,<FONT size=3> reputation</FONT>, or property of any person.


There are others that I have seen but this is the first one I found.

this is why i keep saying to use the CRAs against the creditors because they have something to lose as well!
