Banks charging for accepting checks
Okay, I have done a search and cannot find this anywhere. I know someone posted it somewhere -- any one? Help?
My daughter is receiving a ck from Guam for wrongful child support witholdings -- and the bank last time charged 15 FRNs to accept the thing and then put a two to three week hold on the funds. It's from the Governemt of Guam, not some unknown entity!
Thanks!

This may not help you, since (presumedly) the bank is not in America, but I would still write these disclaimers as part of my endorsement.
I did this today, and it worked like a charm.

Hi Seeker, I thought Gaum was one of those places that is a "possecion" and have all the same rights as US mainland "Hoales" other than they can't vote in federal elections (like that matters) and as such are the people legally responsiable to pay IRS taxs and such. and as with P. Rico they may very likely have US fed gov. charters held there. I think the IRS may be chartered in P.Rico. I am suprised the bank can get away with monkey shines like that. Esp. in this era of "global inter dependance". Banks Suck!

If your daughter is a regular customer of the bank (checking account, etc), have her talk to a manager.
Odds on they'll waive the fee. If they threaten not to, tell them to write a cashier's check for the account and go to a bank that understands how to deal with customers.

shenanigans at best!
My daughter has been trying to get this situation corrected for over five years. The children in question (this is for child support witholdings), have been back to within 30 miles of Dad for that long, but Guam still keeps 'confiscating' IRS refund checks (yeah, he's a dumb** and still over witholds and files! go figure!) She even has two letters from Guam saying they are no longer invovled and that their files are closed, but the next year, here they are again, grabbing the check and even the state gives the check over when they KNOW that it is bogus, but their excuse is "We have to have a letter from Guam." (And they have had at least two). Even good old Mom has sent a letter stating she is no longer living in Guam (her military husband died - and the military transported body and family back). On the PLUS side, when all else was failing, a call to the local Congressional Rep got the funds transferred, but even they had to go at it a second time after they were told the file was closed and transfer back to this state! Organized crime?? How much interest can Guam generate on several thousand dollars of several who knows how many they hold for ransom -- most don't bother, I'm sure.
So, one Congressman's office earning their pay, and one uS citizen paying through the nose for the privledge of allowing the gov't to interfer in his live and the lives of both of his families. And no, he don't have a clue and just won't listen. Time for daughter to dump the stump.
Thanks
