New letters from Collection Agents

I am happy to report that two of the alleged credit cards debts on my credit bureau have been sold to collection companies. the two alleged debts were from the same bank. the letters from the CA try to deceive you that you are actually paying the bank, if you pay them, that is . It's funny how easily I can pick apart their collection letter!!

Now, just to be clear for myself and others that may be new to this site...

First letter to CA should be demanding verification of the alleged debt? I'm sure there is a sample letter here somewhere that I am just not finding?

Silly me! Just found one sample letter in the "FORMS & LETTERS".

Should I be disputing this alleged debt, or just asking for verification of it, as they cannot verify it?

Never dispute--always demand proof of their claim.

Can you explain how and why they cannot verify the alleged debt?

Then the letter on here is not applicable, because it states at the end "disputing the debt"...

Yes I can... There is no debt... So I just need to ask for (certified?) verification, which they cannot provide, and they technically should leave me alone (and not call me at work anymore!)

dalrex,

YOu can modify the letter--which I highly suggest you do.

The reason I asked that question is you stated alot of affirmatives about their business practices and you may be called on by them for you to prove your claim. You can demand all you want but, as soon as you make a claim, you should be able to prove it. Now just because you know that there is no debt--doesn't consitute proof that there is no debt. You can get them to inadvertently admit it through a writing campaing.

All I can say is, don't tip your hand with your knowledge, because you need them to think that you are asleep so that you can catch them with their hands in the cookie jar.

what about phrasing it "To the best of my knowledge no such debt exists."

No dispute, just that to your knowledge there is not one, unless they can prove otherwise. No?

Can you prove that no such debt exists since you are relying on your knowledge and not on documentation?

Ice,

Yes you can. Not just positive documentation but negative documentation as well. Such as one of the CRAs states, We do not have documentation here of the debt. Any admission is good enough for me, since admission trumps evidence.
