Need help with medical bill

In Sept 2004 I had a baby, Oct 2004 I received a check from my medical insurance for $360. I cashed it and spent it. I just received a letter from the insurance company stating that the check wasn't for me but for one of my doctors. They are asking for the $360 back. I don't have an extra $360 laying around. Is there anything I can do so I don't have to pay it. I would like to get this resolved before my 30 days are up. I am fairly new to all of this.

As they made the alleged error of sending you the check I would say "TUFF". Why should you have to make good on their mistake and now 2 years later they want it back. The chances are they will get some jerk collection agency involved. So educating yourself in process would be good. There is much info here and the local law library is also a good place to start. Admit to nothing. If they start harrassing you by phone "notice" them to cease telephonic communications. You will only communicate via the mail.
Education is key and try not to become emotionally distraught or involved. Its just some computer office weasel generating this garbage. How do they know they didn't owe you the money???

Actually I've been working on my husband's credit report, and haven't even got around to this. I actually forgot about it. I guess they send me to collections. I never answer the phone, so I never know who's who.
