Letter from Experian

Sent out the first round of letters to the CRA asking for VOD. Recv'd a what looks like a canned response from Experian telling us their process using an automated verification system or letter when information is disputed and asking us to dispute, along with a copy of the credit report. (not gonna do it, don't worry ) Anyway, here's one statement that stuck out on it... just wondering if they are implying that their statement only applies to disputes and not verification:

"The Federal Trade Commission ... does not require that the consumer reporting agency obtain documentation such as the actual signed sales slips, signature cards, contracts, etc.; nor does it require that consumer reporting agencies act as mediators or negotiators in account disputes."

Just want some thoughts on this sentence before I start composing my response letter.

TIA, Jso

Ignore it. Make them stick to the code... nothing more, nothing less.

I concur with Ice.

You are not disputing--you merely want certified verification from them.

Think about it....you are not asking them to provide copies of sales slips, receipts and what not-----you are demanding that someone write you back and sign their name on a letter attesting to the fact that the debt is valid.

No one will do that. No one wants to be accountable but yet, they want to report it as fact. If it is fact--then there should be no problem with certified verification.

Hey, the cops tell this to people all the time: "If you didn't do anything wrong, then you have nothing to worry about."

The same principle applies to them.

Letter from Experian

juststartingout,

One way that is very effective is letting them know that if the debt is not verified and they do not remove from your CR that you will notify the Attorney General of your State and file a complaint. I have done this in the past very effectively and had items removed that were not verified. The Attorney General will investigate and if not verified, they're gone period.

juststartingout,

My bad, correction. It is the Attorney General of the State the alleged "Creditor" is located. That is who you file the complaint with. You notify all parties involved.

Letter from Experian

I received the same letter from Experian and the other two. I'm getting ready to send a more threating letter as you suggested.
