MBNA & wolpoff & abramson

At the beginning of February I enrolled in a credit counseling system where they would work with my creditors to lower my total amount owed and I would save up funds to cover these debts. I turned over 3 credit cards to this agency-2 of them have not been a problem, however, MBNA has turned this account over to Wolpoff and Abramson who have threatened me with a lawsuit. They sent me a notice about the amount owed and told me I had 30 days to dispute the debt, the credit agency (the ones that are supposed to be helping me) said "no, they are not suing you, blah blah blah," so 30 days later they (W&A) send papers through UPS saying I had several options and could respond to the debt in writing to defend myself before they proceeded with arbitration. again with this batch of mail I have 30 days to respond. I have not contacted my oh so helpful credit agency because I am not sure who to believe anymore but from where I satnd it looks to me like they are proceeding with arbitration. What should I do???

Mbna & wolpoff are the scum of the Earth!!!! Those creeps will jam you however they can. The credit counselers should have intervened on your behalf. I will bet the credit counselers had some disclaimer that said they would "try' To get your creditors to accept their program, but they can not promise that all of the creditors will go along with it. wolpoff has bought this debt for pennies on the dollar and will run you right thru the fake "arbritation" crap claiming to act in behalf of the creditor. Its all a lie. You need to get organized and learn as much as you can concerning this. Some members of this form have had experince with this sort of thing and may be able to help. The law library is a good place to start. If you can afford it, a consumer advocate attorney would be able to challenge these skunks and possibly negoitate a settlement. Wolpoff will not go away so gear up for battle.

There had been some talk on this site about a class action lawsuit against W&A and MBNA. I am beginning to think that was a hoax.

This is one I suggest you contact Bud Hiibbs at www.budhibbs.com about. Let him know what is happening. W&A is one of the DC that he lists on his site as the worst of the worst. He can point you to someone that can help.

May I ask what state you live in? Do you "own" property? Depending on the state you live in there there are protections from garnishments and liens if judgments are rendered in these types of "debts." This is something most atton-eys will not tell you about.
