The Supreme Court - either the US Supreme Court or your state's Supreme Court - is an APPELLATE court. In that environment the only things that happen are papers and arguments presented by the lawyers for both sides.

The TRIAL court, whatever it is called, is where there is witness testimony, evidence, juries, etc.

So, rather obviously, since different things happen in the two types of court, different rules are in place.
