Nation's Capital Declares Crime Emergency

This is absolutely HILARIOUS. The No-Gun zone is declaring a crime emergency.

So much for no-guns makes everyone safer...

I guess the bandits did not get the memo. What a joke.

Nation's Capital Declares Crime Emergency

[...]Police are asking Mall visitors to "be our eyes and ears," Fear said. "We're going to ask them to be vigilant."
Here's a thought: tell the people to arms themselves, thus, stop being victims of armed bandits!

Way, way back in the older threads you will find a story I related about a suburb of Chicago put a ban on guns. A "sister city" located down south... Georgia or somewhere did just the opposite... they made it illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to NOT CARRY A FIREARM. The entire town was packin'! Crime dropped to zero!

Meanwhile... up near Chi-town... home robberies soared about 300% or some such ridiculous number.

As HB said: "so much for 'no guns makes everyone safer.'"

ARM YOURSELF!!

We could practically do away with crime if everyone had to carry a gun. But do you honestly think that the little weasels want an armed public?? You bet they don't!! They wouldn't be able to control the sheeple!! And don't kid yourself... it is all about CONTROL.

Hey Ice,

Could you imagine a negative image of the scene in the movie The Blues Brothers where all the heat at the end of the movie is pointed at a couple of coppers by an army of dudes dressed like Jake and Elwood!

I wish I could find that thread about that story. Heck, finding the original news story about it would be great.

Kennessaw...

Without Prejudice.
Quote:
OWNERSHIP MANDATORY IN KENNESAW, GEORGIA Crime Rate Plummets - Why Doesn't The Media Visit Kennesaw?
"The New American magazine reminds us that March 25th marked the 16th anniversary of Kennesaw, Georgia's ordinance requiring heads of households (with certain exceptions) to keep at least one firearm in their homes. The city's population grew from around 5,000 in 1980 to 13,000 by 1996 (latest available estimate). Yet there have been only three murders: two with knives (1984 and 1987) and one with a firearm (1997). After the law went into effect in 1982, crime against persons plummeted 74 percent compared to 1981, and fell another 45 percent in 1983 compared to 1982. And it has stayed impressively low. In addition to nearly non-existent homicide (murders have averaged a mere 0.19 per year), the annual number of armed robberies, residential burglaries, commercial burglaries, and rapes have averaged, respectively, 1.69, 31.63, 19.75, and 2.00 through 1998. With all the attention that has been heaped upon the lawful possession of firearms lately, you would think that a city that requires gun ownership would be the center of a media feeding frenzy. It isn't. The fact is I can't remember a major media outlet even mentioning Kennesaw. Can you? The reason is obvious. Kennesaw proves that the presence of firearms actually improves safety and security. This is not the message that the media want us to hear. They want us to believe that guns are evil and are the cause of violence. The facts tell a different story. What is even more interesting about Kennesaw is that the city's crime rate decreased with the simple knowledge that the entire community was armed. The bad guys didn't force the residents to prove it. Just knowing that residents were armed prompted them to move on to easier targets. Most criminals don't have a death wish. There have been two occasions in my own family when the presence of a handgun averted potential disaster. In both instances the gun was never aimed at a person and no shot was fired."

Quote:
Kennesaw has the nickname of "Gun Town, USA" due to a city ordinance passed in 1982 [Sec 34-1a] that requires every head of household to maintain a firearm with ammunition. It was passed partly in response to a 1981 handgun ban in Morton Grove, Illinois. Kennesaw's law was amended in 1983 to exempt those who conscientiously object to owning a firearm, convicted felons, those who cannot afford a firearm, and those with a mental or physical disability that would prevent them from owning a firearm. It mentions no penalty for its violation. According to the Kennesaw Historical Society, no one has ever been charged under the law.
Criminologist and gun-control critic Gary Kleck attributes a drop of 89% in the residential burglary rate to the law (Kleck, 1991), and Kennesaw is often cited by advocates of gun ownership as evidence that gun ownership deters crime (see, for instance, this 2004 sheet of talking points from the Gun Owners Foundation). Other criminologists dispute the 89% figure, using the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting data, and find instead a small, statistically insignificant increase in burglaries after the law was passed (McDowall, Wiersema and Loftin, 1989; McDowall, Lizotte and Wiersema, 1991).[full article at wikipedia]

Thumbs up Gun Safety!

You gotta love that news. It would be great if more places would get a clue: firearms improve the quality of life.
