EU Constitution

The Dutch and the French have voted NO. Main reason is that they do not want to lose their sovereign rights. US, any ideas here? What a novel thought!

The Dutch and French already have lost a lot of their soverignty through the numerous treaties in place. 90% of the EU constitution was simply a re-statement of those treaties. Actually, the reasons that the "man on the street" were giving reporters were:

1. They don't want Turkey to be a member of the EU. (which has nothing to do with the constitution, they just used their no vote as an outlet to show opposition.)

2. They were afraid that the right-wing politics of other member nations would encroach on their liberal ideals, like gay marriage and euthanasia.

3. The whole drafting process was a bureaucratic mess that nobody liked.
