Social Security #'s

Hi Y'all,

I have a question I think might benefit some of us through the discussion.

Is it necesary to have a Social Security # ?
Is it the law to have a SS # ?
Have you had sucess getting rid of it?
Have you had sucess not having it?

I have tried to get a couple of medical exams wihout giving it to the doctors and they refuse to see/examin me because I tell them I don't have one.
They cannot refuse medical can they?
Based sheerly on the premise that everyone should have a SS#.

Just some thoughts...

John

With previous experience as a medical receptionist, I don't know why they would need your ss#.

Foreign born patients going to the same doctor's office may not necessary have a ss#.

The only reason I see that they need a ss# is to fill in the 'ss# field' in the 'patient information' in the 'system'.

The ss# is used for i.d. purposes for health insurance claims only after your insurance account # didn't produce the correct or produced the incorrect patient name.& The ss# is to verify identity in this case.

According to Bud Hibbs of http://www.budhibbs.com/budhibbs/&, the main reason a hospital or a doctors office wants your SS#& is in case you don't pay them they can start collections against you.& Just something to think about.

JWR,

I am not sure about that. I know for a fact that debt collectors can and will proceed with collections without a SSN. I also know that it is possible for companies to report to credit reporting agencies, as well as obtain credit ratings without a SSN.
