General Post Office and Sales Tax

What is the "benefit" of having all your mail sent to the post office and not your home.?? Somebody mentioned it lets you pick and choose your mail. Ok thats great , but how does it protect you in practical terms? When you are sent a "presentment" is just to further faciliatate in your mind that your soveriegn and can pick your mail up general style ?? LOL. You still have to deal with the presentment to stay in honor or dishonor. The court can "railroad" you just because the judge argues that the presentment was sent to your "residence" . All the paperwork and court strategies should not even have the postal issue come into question.. I guess im trying to figure out how this assimilates/ corresponds with all the stragies that are written in these forums. Somebody Please Explain.

Also, when i was younger working retail, I talked to a "common law citizen" he only had id, and we talked a little bit and say anytime he steps foot into a retail store he never pays "sales tax". Does anyone know how to get tax exempt status at stores without having to start a "religious organization" LOL

you have to search your state's legislature's acts, in the tax law prolaby to find such an exemption; no shananigans would be necessary other than making a copy of the law-text to show around when you are making a purchase of taxable items.

Talking General Post Office

How do you set up your mail for "general delivery". I heard in one post that if you do this, the tax man cant send you anything because your not in federal jurisdiction.

What are the procedures?

It's legally meaningless whether your mail is delivered to you or you go pick it up, and just to be clear, the use of the Zip code has no legal meaining as well.

The non-payment of sales tax has nothing to do with the status of an organization, i.e., not-for-profit/religion. The regulations are set up such that something purchased for future resale is not taxed - in other words, the sales tax applies at the final retail-consumer transaction, not in the multiple exchanges prior to it. In order to qualify for resale status and not pay the sales tax, you would have to be an established business and provide the merchant with evidence for their records so they can demonstrate why they did not collect sales tax on the products you acquired.

ZIP is an acronym for Zone Improvement Plan. A ZIP Code is a 5-digit code that identifies a specific geographic delivery area. ZIP Codes can represent an area within a state (an area that may or may not cross county boundaries), an area that crosses state boundaries (an unusual condition), or a single building or company that has a very high mail volume. http://www.usps.com/ncsc/lookups/add...efinitions.htm
Another site that has some interesting things to say about ZIP codes is http://www.answers.com/topic/zip-code
Oh, and about the use of ZIP codes having no legal meaning, I found this site: http://www.theforbiddenknowledge.com...h/zip_code.htm
I plan to look up all the referenced cites myself, but thought I'd put it out there for others to check as well.

Okay, I've been checking, and it looks like that last link has old cites in it. Here's the beginning of that article:
Quote:
Use of the ZIP Code is voluntary. See Domestic Mail Services Regulations, Section 122.32. You should also know that the Postal service can not discriminate against the non-use of the ZIP Code. See "Postal Reorganization Act", Section 403, (Public Law 91-375).
Section 122.32 doesn't exist anymore; doesn't mean the information didn't get moved elsewhere, but haven't found anything else yet.
I didn't find any reference to "discriminate against the non-use of the ZIP code" in the Reorganization Act, Section 403.
I'm still looking; I'll see what I can find.

JRB is close

The ZIP(R) code does not have any "legal" meaning, true enough, but it only applies to US addresses.

US is the corp US.

Free delivery on the other hand is something that does have legal meaning.

I am writing currently, the Sovereign Mail Manual, and it should be done in about a month.

You do not apply for general delivery. You just go and start asking for your mail there: "you have any mail for me in general delivery?"

They may try to get you to sign a form 1527, but you do not have to if you are transient. (Not permanently located, which technically applies to everyone).

They may try to tell you that you can only do this for 30 days. That too is false.

I have all of this in the SMM.

Marksgirl, this is a pretty good example of the problem we often see where snippets of information are taken, posted, copied, edited, taken, posted, copied and so on, and pretty soon the real meaning or intent is lost or at least clouded.

The ZIP code is voluntary; not using it means your mail might not get to where it's supposed to go or it might not get there as quickly.
