Can a State prosecute on Information if penalty permits prison?

Before losing some files, I recall seeing that no prosecution can proceed on Information if incarceration is a possible penalty, but that such prosecution must be on an indictment.& As I recall, it was a Supreme Court decision.& Could someone provide such cite?& Thanks.
