Guatemala Divorce
A friend of mine (Guatemalan) married a woman from Guatemala in Guatemala. He is trying to divorce her, a lawyer in the US took his money to do a divorce . My question is, if you are married under the laws of Guatemala how would a US Court have jurisdiction to divorce him? It certainly wouldnt have jurisdiction to marry them under the laws of Guatemala.

If either spouse is now living in the U.S., the courts of that state have jurisdiction to grant a divorce (but not necessarily to award alimony, child support or child custody).
