Bush Signs Spy Bill and Draws Lawsuit

WASHINGTON (July 10) - President Bush signed a law on Thursday overhauling the rules for eavesdropping on terrorism suspects but immediately met a civil liberties challenge calling it a threat to Americans' privacy.

"This law will protect the liberties of our citizens while maintaining the vital flow of intelligence," Bush said at a White House ceremony to mark a rare legislative victory for the president during his last year in office.

I am happy to hear this piece of good news.

Here is what I wrote to my CongressCritters in the Senate:

Quote:
I'm very disappointed by Senator Robert Casey's, and Arlen Specter's, anti-Fourth Amendment vote. This is not the end of it, for me. I will be supporting legal action to overturn this un-Constitutional law in the courts. And I will be working with other Americans to compel Congress to get this right. After all, the public was against this in roughly inverse proportion to the Senate's vote for it. So I suspect that thousands of citizens from Pennsylvania will be making the Senators regret their vote.

By the way, Representative Robert Brady voted against this measure in the House. Way to go!
