I sued Asset Acceptance for $5k

I filed a lawsuit today against a debt collection company named Asset Acceptance. I noticed they were reporting on my Transunion file, so I requested validation. They claimed I had a Bally's account which I have never had. So I gave them 30 days to prove their claim. Transunion had already deleted it the item, however that simply didn't get them off the hook. So I sent them a settlement offer giving them 15 days to respond with a check for 2500.00 and they didn't of course. So today I filed a claim for 5k and a letter stating the account will be permanetly barred from my credit file and that it will not be sold or transferred.

I had all my letters, post office reciepts, and affidavits as well. Feels good to be on offense!!

Has anyone ever sued a debt collector for failure to verify?

You can't sue them for failing to verify. They must cease collections until they validate. Be aware of what "validation" means though. It isn't just some piece of paper they have laying around their office with your name on it.
It must come from the original creditor with an affidavit sworn to under penalty of perjury by someone with first hand knowledge of the particular account. Until they have done this they haven't verified or validated anything. For continuing collection prior to doing this, you can sue.
If you disputed it on your credit report and they verified that it was accurate or updated it, then you may have some recourse like the action you have taken becasue it is damaging your credit.
Good luck, and on the offense is the ONLY place to be.
