The time was prior to the world-devastating flood of Noah's age, as recorded in the sixth chapter of Genesis. We learn there that certain of the "sons of the Almighty One" found the daughters of men to be beautiful, and decided to marry them, with the purpose of interbreeding with the human race (Genesis 6:1-2).
Some deny the clear evidence of what this says by claiming these "sons of the Almighty Ones" were really righteous men, and that the women were descendants of Cain, who killed Abel (Genesis 4).
However this ignores the clear results of these unions, which were called "Nephalim," who were also called "the heroes of old, the men of renown" (Genesis 6:4). This word is translated "giants" in the old King James English version of the bible, and the word means "to fall, be cast down" and "a bully or tyrant."
This same word describes the enormous beings, reputedly cannibals, before whom the normal sized men of Yasrael were, in size and height, "as grasshoppers" (Numbers 13:31-33). These giants were descended from the Anak, or Anakim (verses 22, 28, 33), a word which means: "a choke chain or collar," which was doubtless one of the devices used by these giants to hold humans captive while fattening them for slaughter and consumption (original of the "myths" of the Cyclops and similar bloodthirsty, human-eating giants in "fairy tales" and nearly every ancient culture).
The results of this early experiment in alien-human interbreeding were disastrous for humanity, leading to many wars, much bloodshed upon the earth, and massive evil in those days (Genesis 6:5), and were equally destructive to the fallen alien-angels who started this great evil experiment (II Peter 2:4-5). So badly did things deteriorate that the Creators determined to wipe out most life on the planet, other than one man and his family, along with pairs of every kind of animal on the earth, by means of the ark in which they escaped the devastating flood that destroyed everyone and everything else (Genesis 6:6-8, 11-20).
The reason this one man, Noah, was chosen to be the sole survivor of the human race, we are told by scripture, was because he "was perfect in his generations" (Genesis 6:9, 7:1). This did not mean merely righteous in his own generation, as some modern translations put it, but it actually meant that his lineage was unpolluted (perfect, or "without blemish") all the way back to Adam, with the crossbreeding between the aliens and humanity that had corrupted all other races and peoples on earth (and even many of the animals, with strange hybrids, such as half goat-half human, or half horse or bull and half human, to name a few of the "mythical" beasts that then came into existence by means of this wicked genetic tampering) by Noah's time!
Obviously, after the flood another incursion of aliens succeeded in again infiltrating the human race and interbreeding with humanity, again producing another race of giants or Nephalim, as alluded to in Genesis 6:4 by the ominous words "and afterward." Only this time they did not succeed in corrupting all life on the planet with genetic tampering, and were eventually all wiped out of existence (Deuteronomy 2:10-11, 21).
One of the last of these giants, over nine feet tall himself, was destroyed by David with a rock propelled at the giant's forehead at fatal speed from the boy's sling (I Samuel 17:4-51). Four other giants were also destroyed, one of which was also named Goliath (II Samuel 21:16-22; I Chronicles 20:4-8). In these accounts the giants of that age were said to be descended from the Rapha, or Rephaim, meaning: self-healing, and also: "dead" or "deceased," perhaps implying the "living dead" (origin of the zombies tradition).
This would be a perfect way of describing those who were cloned, but had no human spirit in them. Their spirits came from the fallen angels that sired these giants with human women through cloning (since angels don't have sexual organs, are neither male nor female, and are therefore otherwise quite incapable of normal breeding, as we know it (cf. Matthew 22:30; Mark 12:25; Luke 20:35).
