I could list the lyrics if you want. They are kind of hard to pick out I guess. I sort of sang it in a false kind of rough sounding voice for an experiment. I liked the experiment so I kept it.

This is a thread dedicated to our favorite tv themes. I picked Gilligan's Island. Mine is like 4th from the bottom.

I posted some of the thoughts that went into Solace on Randy's thread. I'll repost it here......

The last line in my tune says:

"Sheltered from the pointlessness but never seem to make it last".

The song itself is about those rare times when I am sort of in a ZEN state of mind. The intro is sort of melancholy symbolizing quiet comtemplation and the swell is symbolic of a thought that leads to a sort of epiphany (abrupt beginning) and a feeling of well being (verses) which cycles back to the realization of pointlessness in the end as it fades.

I just like the feeling of major seventh chords. I can't explain it.

Actually that is pretty acurate dude. I don't get enough of them in the music I like to listen to. The whole thing was a big experiment.

By the way....

Any tips for a struggling, self-taught piano player? Some of the pieces are finally starting to fall into place. Or, put this way: I'm beginning to think that most people who teach piano/write books, etc., make the whole process a lot more complicated than it really is. (Then again, I do have a gift for making complicated the most simple things in life....)

You mean tips for writing music in general?

Writing? No way. Just learning to play, that's all.

Those little tricks and stuff. You know, like fills when resting on a chord, smoother progressions from one chord to the next....That kind of thing.

One thing I recently "discovered" (Yeah, all the books I have have said this, over and over, but you know how it is: Sometimes it takes a while for things to "click"...): Helps to think in terms of the numeric value of the tone when moving from one chord to the next....

I'm really having a ton of fun. But I will admit that, as is my usual way, I'm over-analyzing the thing. I just like to know "why" I'm doing whatever it is I'm doing.

I'm not much of a piano player myself. I mainly play guitar, bass, and sing. I tried to get serious about playing piano but I just couldn't stick to it. If I need drums for a song, I just program them with a midi sequencer.

If you have a midi keyboard, you can get a cheap program for your computer ($30) that will teach you to play piano. It's like having a private instructor. You learn how to read music and everything. I imagine there are different programs for different levels of experience.

What I like to do is learn my favorite songs and play along with them.

Man, this tune(posted in the first thread) really hit the spot this afternoon. Very relaxing & contemplative in the midst of the war in Zion..

"Nothin' left to wrap my head around . . ."

I still love that bridge. The verse naturally flows into it without it sounding "cut & paste" just for the sake of having a different section in the tune.

I like how it goes into the short 1/2 verse & the fade out. Pretty cool.

Nice job. I give a big "ups" to anyone who has the guts the write a song and then puts it out there for all to listen. I don't think I could ever do that. I've always been self-conscious of my works, especially if I'm the one singing. I used to have a really good voice......the high scream from the 80's hair band days, but then the smoking cig's tore up my vocals. I recently quit the habit (when I got the flue recently and couldn't stand the habit) and I'm hoping that my vocal chords heal and I can get that sound back. Other than that, I'm just a musician with the occasional back-up vocals.

But anyways, nice job KT. Keep on jamming. I hope we can hear some more tunes soon.
