Gearheads
I only know how to change oil, spark plugs, tires, air filter, thermostat, etc ...
I know nothing of true mechanics & toubleshooting
I found this repository of do it yourself guides
http://www.books-online-store.net/no...air/33413.html
Automotive Technology: A Systems Approach looks good
Auto Fundamentals, also
I heard that Chilton's sucks and Haine's is better
Does anyone know of any decent books that teach HOW to troubleshoot
& the actual repairing TECHNIQUES?
I drive a '96 V6 3.0 Ford Ranger gasser and was wondering if there are any
Sovereign Gearheads who can aid in my mechanical sovereignty

WP,
I have seen it all! Your topics of posts are ALL over the place. I KNOW you were diagnosed with ADD growing up. :-P
Now, what is your problem? I can answer it. I am a gearhead and get paid to be one too, so that must make me pretty smart!

Oh, and thanks for the link. As always you offer something of use.

Well, the Lord prevented the diagnosis, as I would've been one of those 1970's Ritalin guineau pigs.
I came close, though. My kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Metzger, told my Mom something to the effect of, "That boy ain't right". My mom wasn't havin' it though and ignored it whether out of pride or only God knows what.
Well if I truly did have A.D.D., it's gotten worse.
I believe I have C.R.S. now.

It seems to me that a lot of people that are independently minded were at one time or another diagnosed or almost diagnosed with something. These are the same folks that nowadays populate this board and others like it. Fellow travelers through this viel that are searching for the "red pill". These are an independent breed, both male and female, of every race, creed, color, nationality, and religion.
Freedom is not just an American Desire, nor is it confined to any one particular set or subset of humanity. It matters not what you "do" for a living, nor any other factor. Some folks have held forty "jobs" in thier lifetime, others only two or three. Some twist wrenches, some hammer away at typewriters/keyboards. or dig ditches.
The point being, that ALL are welcome in the pursuit of both knowledge and freedom. If ANYONE posting here needs any thing in the way of information, and it is not a cut down or a plant to seek personal information, Then they should be answered with all forthrightness available.
My "hat is off" to all who visit this board, both members and non members for having the courage to seek after the truth.

Confounded Rotten Statutes? (when their parroted like the LAW)
Convicts Running States? (yes, my state too)
Cops Railroading Sovereigns? (sometimes this happens)
Cough Right, Sir. (I hated those exams)

Just got my Haynes Manual today & some new tools. I'm ready to really screw things up now.
the spark plugs were recently changed out & am ready to change the oil.
What is the next important step after the oil assuming the car is running fine?
I was thinking of the diff. whaddya think, gearheads?

What Next?
Weis,
It all depends on how far you want to go. Depending on the make, model, and year of your vehicle, I would do a complete Lube Job, Anti freeze check, Change if needed (It should be a bright green or a nice pink, depending on the year, etc) Check brakes, not just from the pedal, but check condition of pads/shoes/droms/rotors, as well as fluid level in the resovoir (sp).
All of the items I list above are what I do whenever I buy a used vehicle, or someone brings me one for my attentions.
I am glad you selected Haynes as your manual, I do not think you will be dissapointed. I have had NOTHING but the best from them for years. For the DIY'er, for my money it is the best around. Good Luck, and if I can be of help, PM me.

Wies,
If this is a shifter model, you shouldattempt to withdrawl some of the clutch fluid from the resevoir and replace it with new.
The slave cylinders leak and the only way to change one is to pull the transmission OUT of the truck. Bad design. So fresh fluid is good insurance. Further bleeding is more complex than you should go now. Just get the resevoir topped off with fresh. Brake fluid(clutch fluid is same) is hydrostatic and attracts water which rusts iron which makes rubber seals leak.
