Government & Marriage
Below is an email that I received and thought worthy of posting.
Dear NOW, I read with great interest your section on same sex marriage and marriage "rights". We at CFLAP firmly believe that all people in America be treated equally and fairly by the government. Sadly, this does not happen with marriage. I absolutely agree with your assesment of problems with survivor benefits, etc, and having partners recognized with certain legal rights. It is no different for hetrosexual partners who live together to avoid punitve divorce laws. However, you appear to be speaking from both sides of your mouth. You state in your treatise that government should not intrude into our private lives and then proceed to give all the reasons why you want government to intrude into our private lives.
CFLAP is involved in a political, legal, and public information, effort to expose and reform the corrupt family law scheme that daily destroys the lives of millions of Americans and literally strips them of their constitutional rights. It is government corruption on a grand scale. From our experience, we have come to know that a state marriage license in and of itself is a contract with the state ( more like the devil) - not your spouse. This contract represents a wholesale sellout of your rights under state and federal constitutions to any privacy or protection from an intrusive government.
A state marriage license gives ignorant judges and corrupt family law attorneys complete and lifetime authority over your private life. This includes your children, assets, and income - past, current and future. If your marriage fails, they will determine who gets to care for your children as well as who pays for their support and how much. They will force one spouse to pay alimony to the other for the rest of their lives. The lawyers will seek and usually succeeed in dividing up any cash assets you have between themselves without regard to proper representation of their clients.
You will have absolutely no constitutional rights under family law. Do you understand this? Is it so important to you that gay and lesbian marriage be licensed by the state that you would willingly trade your birthrights as an American for that bowel of porridge? Only when we expel government and their corrupt proxies from marriage will we acheive equal marriage rights. In the mean time, we ask that you join us in purging our lives of this corrupt scheme called family law before they grant you what you are asking for.
Sincerely,
Robert Sell, Chairman
