Land Patent...Who Started This?
There was a very interesting case here in VT where a slave "owner" was trying to convince a court to return his runaway "property". As proof of ownership the man showed a bill of sale, but the judge, Theophilus Harrington, denied. Asking what would satisfy the court, the judge said, "A bill of sale signed by God Almighty!"
Which brings me to the topic at hand, LAND. Who gave the government any authority to ration out land patents, titles or deeds? Some say we were Britain's subjects, therefore the charters of the colonies transferred title. But again, who gave the land to the King?
These things were and are nothing more than fraud! God owns the land and we are only the stewards. We can use it and give it away to our children or others, but really we can’t sell it.
I realize this is a radical departure from what we are accustomed to, but there is a maxim of law that says you cannot transfer what you do not own. If you research the settled law you will see also that possession is often more valuable than a title.
We have many legal terms that are associated with land and a good deal of them came from the feudal system of Britain. I guess it was for lack of better terms to describe the numerous schemes people came up with to make a profit.
In the early days of VT’s history land was sold for pennies an acre. Our own “hero” Ethan Allen gave away thousands of acres to people who were influential in the continental congress. Few if any had any intention of settling their land; they were in it for a quick profit. Ethan’s brother IRA had control of over 200,000 acres. Being the state’s first treasurer and surveyor general could not have hurt.
And what does someone threaten when they really want to get you to do something? Your foundation. Wars are fought over it and on it. EVERYTHING except sunshine comes from it.
Feedback please.
