I think one of the advantages of the 762*39 is the ammo is it is easy to get and fairly inexpensive (85 cents a round if bought in bulk); and of course it should be able to penetrate Level III body armor w/ ease. And the SKS is supposed to be a very good rifle and also affordable ($400 +/-).
Can anyone please correct me if my assumptions are incorrect?

andrewmitch, your assumptions are probably correct, but you probably just added yourself to the terrorist watch list (if you weren't already on it, though I believe everyone here is probably already on it) by posting such a topic. You surely must realize that this site is probably the most heavily troll laden site on the net, so unless that was your intent (i.e., to stir up new members to that quite sizable list, and I'm not suggesting it was) then don't go there man.

Maybe so, but if they think you have an sks or an AK-47, you're going to get real special treatment. Remember the video of the 90 + year old woman with a gun trying to protect her home after Katrina? All I'm saying is why give them a reason, why make it far worse than it has to be?
It may be time for a refresher course in the Art of War.

Maybe it is time folks stop worrying about if the jackbooted thugs are coming to private homes, and is time that the Rothschild / Rockefeller Cartels of about 3000+/- start worrying about the 6Billion Angry Stewards.
Yes David D., we know where you live, too! You have no place to hide on the planet, under the site of God Almighty!!!
223 is lighter to pack more rounds and has much superior accuracy at longer ranges... great suppression at long range with tighter ballistics, and superior penetration. Good for causing leaks
I Fear No Reprisal... that is scare tactic typical of the Scumbag Banker Cartel... Fear God Ye Red Whore (Mystery Babylon) Red Shield Inbreds!!!

Look, I'm not disagreeing with you here. I'm not suggesting we sit around in fear, and do nothing. But, does nobody see the logic in NOT having a huge neon sign over our homes saying :looky here, I have powerful weapons inside"??!! We need to check our testosterone levels at the door, and be smart about this.

Ruger 10-22 converted full auto shoots .22's not much smaller than .223, very high velocity, long rifle hollow points, reliable mechanically.

Definitely.
And my post above is not suggesting that anyone advertise what they have.
It might be wise to consider de-urbanizing ourselves as much as possible.
The ptb are not further along in their agenda, in large part, I think, thanks to the farmers, hunters, and rural communities.
There are more quiet patriots than people might realize.

Sks
I agree that the SKS is a good personal defense rifle. The 7.62mm round it shoots is the same as that used by the AK-47. I bought an SKS about 12 years ago. Very reasonably priced...was Chinese military surplus, cost about $110.
