Are there any free communities in America?

Is there ANYWHERE in America where freedom still exists? I have to leave Michigan, and soon, it is simply too dangerous here, the tyranny has become far too great. Is there anywhere to go where a man can live free? I'm seriously considering moving to Texas, near the Corpus Christi area, but if theres any communities with any measure of freedom still left in America, I'd be proud to join them.

This is probobly just a fantasy, but if theres anyplace that has a self-sustaining community with no government intrusion, deals in gold and silver and doesnt use FRNs, and has people with a general Libertarian mindset.. I'd be in heaven on earth, lol. I seriously doubt a place like this exists, but if there were I would give almost anything to be there. I respect the Amish for, in many ways, avoiding governmental tyranny, but they live in too backwards a manner to really enjoy life IMO.

I just read over the Declaration of Independance once again yesterday, its such a beautiful document, and we have it far worse today in many ways than the colonists had with Britain in the 18th century, yet nobody is doing anything about it out of pure fear and/or ignorance. I prefer to live in peace, which is why I'm asking this, but if there's not, I may have no choice but to declare war against my oppressors, and do everything in my power to violently overthrow them, because passive resistance simply isnt working. I'd rather die fighting than live with tyranny.

Re: Free Communities?

Greetings Raptor13x,

Supposedly, there is a community in Ithica, New York, of all places, that does operate on a barter system using "Ithica hours", and I have only heard about this.

Sincerely,

alaska?

I can't resist stating that much of Alaska is still that way. Anchorage and Fairbanks are not Alaska in that sense of the word though. They have implemented taxes and lotsa govt to justify themselves to the rest of the nation. But where I live, 5 hours from Anchorage via a paved road(where it ends!), we have NO taxes on anything but the usual fuel, tobacco, etc. You know; the legal ones called indirect taxes, exise taxes?
Many of us have shrugged off the Fed tax too.
The few cops that come through here I am still training and the apppointed judge could be likened to Boss Hawg, but for the most part, I barter and live fairly free. Compared to 8 years ago when I lived in southern Cali, I am definitely free!
But Raptor, motorcycles in the winter don't work too well. Our local Mercantile even takes silver for payment!

How would rural Texas be less dangerous than rural Michigan?

What kind of danger are you in?

Oh also, the following states don't have a state income tax:

Alsaka, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington and Wyoming.

New Hampshire and Tennessee only tax dividinds, which the average sui jurist won't have any of.

Also - keep in mind that if you make less than a certain amount, you don't have to worry about the Feds coming after you for taxes either. That's really the easiest way to opt out of that...

Actually, the value of the Ithica hour is tied to the value of FRN. Therefore, it's subject to all of the same ill-effects of FRN's.

FYI

I live in the suburbs here, where there are hundreds upon hundreds of cops with nothing better to do but assault your Rights. I've recently been arrested and they put up a $25,000 bond. I spent 2 days in jail after being denied access to a law library to prepare my habeas corpus, and left in 55-60 degree temperatures with no blanket, shivering, with no food. Well, I got one ****ty muffin, but that didnt really qualify as food. Who did I hurt? Nobody. It was "reckless driving", on an empty road, not a soul was harmed in any way. I cant live like this, restricted in everything I can or cant do. Worse yet, the cops broke into my house without a warrant, stole my motorcycle from the garage, and they threatened to injure me for no reason. Yes, they are being sued, but the point remains, I refuse to live like this, and they are gonna find my breaking point VERY soon.

Texas, from what I've seen, is far more liberty-minded than the security obsessed Michigan. But my main reason for wanting to move down south is that I HATE the cold, which unfortunately rules out Alaska. If I never saw another day below 60 degrees I'd be a happy man.

Income taxes are among the easier things to get out of, I'm more worried about social security numbers and cops assaulting you for doing things you have the lawful right to do.

RickA,

That is why America, the new world, a new start sounded so great a hundred years and more ago to those in Europe where you couldn't really OWN land because the king owned it. You just paid rent.

To a certain degree, I imagine my 50 acres is owned by the Fed Reserve because it might have been put up as a bond for a loan or something screwy like that, but reality is NO property tax. You come as close to "owning" your land as you can! Once paid for, often to private parties(banks don't like loaning on houses where their blessed inspectors do not have any obligation to inspect), you own your land. Done. This means, and here is the good part, you do NOT have to earn a crazy amount of money to keep the controllers at bay. What a concept! Oh, actually that's old news. America was founded on property rights. I forgot. sorry.

Raptor,

I'd be so ticked too. This would certainly justify video survelliance cameras and maybe a mine field! Of course, this is all after the fact with 20/20 hindsight. Enough of this hindsight! Let's be proactive. Do you have the badge or evidence of WHO trespassed with what warrant?
These little piggies obviously whined up top that one of the "citizens" was getting away legally. The top brass(whoever that is) began to make their plans and get their Gestapo team in order so that your deprivation of rights would be fast and furious. Like when they throw flash bombs and noise bombs in a building to disorient the folks. Jerks. Sometimes I wonder when they'll venture up my long driveway. I don't have any NO trespassing signs yet....not that these jerks would really care.
As for cold, just put on another jacket.

Careful, Weis,

i hear that Colorado has been declared in a "state of emergency" too!
But opposite of the great depression in the '30's, the coming years may be to move BACK to the country. Remember the dustbowl and how moving to the cities was their "salvation"? It may be those who move AWAY from the cities will be luckiest this time.
