2nd or 3rd Income

This may seem like it doesn't belong here. But ... on the off-chance that any of you reading this are into investing, professionally or otherwise, I was wondering about starting a second income source, just to 'protect' myself from coming world events. Does anybody know about the products of Nik Halik, an australian international investor? I've read a few of his email newletters, but I haven't shelled out the 3000$ it costs to take his stay-at-home course. Any other good sources of education for a would-be investor?

I've also been contemplating opting out of my retirement savings plan with the government ('rrsp' here in canada) by selling all my stocks -- you know, in case the government decides take them in an 'emergency'. I got a tip from E G Warman of DetaxCanada.org, to convert the rrsp account to 'self-directed' and take the money out 5000 dollars at a time. But there are still significant witholding fees, I believe. Any ideas anybody?
