Hi Noel: Great food for thought, thanks! Also, love the "Casa D'Ice" signs.
I am here in Ketchikan because now the Kerchikan Gateway Borough is suing me. Neighbor George Lybrand and his wife have been suing me for about 10 years and loosing (even in their appeal to Alaska Supreme Court). So, he ran for Borough Assemblyman and within a month of taking office he got a new "sign ordinance" passed that designates as sign as: "any words, lights, letters, parts of letters, sentences, phrases, numerals, figures, emblems, devices, trade names .....". Virtually even a grave marker is a "sign". Even though I have been putting a mural on my roof for 10 years, Borough got a complaint from Lybrand and his "good old boy group" and objected to the hearts, birds, cross, etc. on my roof. Mind you there are a lot of Chrismas decorations up and Lybrand even has a 18" plaque on the side of his house of "Liz and George Lybrand" with flowers, frogs, etc. on it but I am the only one the Borough is suing. There is even a large flag on Tongass Trading store and a painted U.S. flag painted on a roof near the Jr. High. What a jerk!!!!! Can't afford any more attorneys so this time I am trying to do it myself. Of course to make points with the town fathers, he is playing "hardball". Got a bunch of interrogatories and request for admissions just before Christmas. I had ask for more than 3 days mailing (mail usually takes a minimum of 5 days) but the attorney objected ---- he doesn't want to cut any slack. I am hiding out up here so he can't serve me with any more papers that might make me stay longer. He is also suing my tenants, one already moved out. Hard to rent when I have to tell them that the Borough might sue them. Anyway, I am to leave on tomorrow's ferry and rented to a young Coast Guard who believes in the First Amendment rights
