Copyright laws

Does anybody know anything about copyright laws? My son has ben recording some vocal songs on a computer using kareoke CD's, and making CD's with them. They are very good and he wants to try to promote them, but is afraid of violating copyright laws. He isn't trying to sell them, just wanting to distribute them to try and protmote himself. He has given credit to each kareoke track that he used on the CD label, and states that CD is not for sale, or for financial gain. Will that cover him? Does anyone know anything about this? He is wanting to distribute them to some local radio stations to see if they might play some of the tracks.

Smile copyright law

I have not looked these issues up recently, but like most things in commerce,if no profit is being generated financially to him and he is not claiming to have written the material,I seriously doubt that anyone would take issue with what he wants to do.Now if that changed somehow and suddenly the tracks were getting steady airplay, the performing arts tracking company's like BMI and ASCAP that monitor radio stations for statistics to pay royalties would eventually ask for their piece of the pie if they were called into it by the copyright owners of the song/music.Most stations have very strict parameters and won't even touch songs, even amazing ones, if it hasn't come in thru the politically-correct channel. When some breaks do come for him,he can renegotiate how he is handling those issues.I'll see if I still have any relevant info on that. Believin' with you for the best!
