USPS Lost My Certified Mail

USPS has lost my Certified Mail to the FTB.

My question is just this, in sending the whole response over again using Registered Mail, do I send a copy of the Affidavit of Service from the Certified Mailing?

Do I reference the previous mailing at all?

The choice to mention the previous mailing is yours.& I don't think it matters... unless it was actually delivered and you were "misinformed".& You can proceed as if the first mailing never occurred.

nralien,

Are you in luck!& You are in the company of a postal guru!!& me!

Go to the post office and and take your certified number and ask them to do a tracer action on the number to see if it was delivered.& they should find out fairly easily since they (FTB) had to sign either a Ps Form 3854 or PS Form 3877.& either way they have to sign for it from the post office.& providing the post office did their job correctly.

Good luck

Didn't you mention this in another forum that we have frequented in the past?... I'm sure I've seen something in regards to this before.

Thanks Ice and Jerseee

Jerseee I have two additional questions:

1. How long will (should) it take for them to do a tracer action?

2. Is this tracer action any different than tracking it online?

Re:USPS Lost My Certified Mail

Ice,

Yes indeed. Now some folks here can understand why presenmetns come in the mail. This is war! And if folks don't believe that this is an informational war--then they are buried under a pile of bulk mail.

Nralien,

It should not take them too long to do a tracer. In fact if you want to do it your self you can. It is fairly simple. Just call the post office that delivered the correspondence and ask if they have someone signing to accept accountable mail on behalf of FTB?

Easy enough?

As for online tracking.....try it. I do not believe that you can track certified mail but, they may have finally updated their systems to do that.

I track certified mail online almost every day.& All you have to do is enter the certified mail number into the tracking box on their home page.

Re:USPS Lost My Certified Mail

Thanks Jerseee and Montana

Is it possable that the FTB actually "holds" the mail for a day or two before they complete the PS Form 3811?

I say that because I have one that was mailed on 23 January.

The online Track & Confirm shows it delivered at 6:09 am on January 26.

However, the PS Form 3811 is stamped 28 January!

Looks like someone is playing "games" with dates.
