GET A HAM RADIO and learn how to use it.

I see them clamping down on anyone using the internet within the next 5-10 years, possibly sooner.

Ham Radio can circumvent the crap. I am not an expert, yet, but I intend to figure it out in the next year.

Yeah, this quote pretty much tips me off to their long-term goal:

"Access to networks like the World Wide Web might need to be limited to those who can show they take security seriously, he said."

My interpretation: We want to create legislation that requires ISP's to collect personal details from their clients like Government ID, SSNs, etc., and every morning while we sit around and drink coffee we will arbitrarily make make a (secret) list of characteristics to screen for. We are already doing that at the airports before you can fly, so get used to it!

How nice! With this kind of protection, I bet we will never have to worry about spam, viruses, or ebay fraud ever again. The nice government is responsible to protect us from these deadly threats, so we can all sleep tight at night with BB cuddled up next to us....

Uggg, these guys are so predictable - at least we can always see their next move a mile away!

'Ham' comes from 'Amateur Radio'.

I've had a 'Ham' license since 1956.

Post Ham Radio (a quick couple of notes)

I agree about getting a ham radio and learning how to use it. I would suggest that you get one that is heavily shielded aganst EMP, as nowadys, it does not take a boom boom to make them. An excellent faraday cage would protect your equipment rather handily I should think.

By the way, I have read that for line of sight limited distnce transmission, you can take an FRS, rig it with remote mic, place it in the center of a satelite dish and transmit/receive. Anyone wishing to intercept the signal has to either be in direct line with your transmit, or have an antenna in direct line.

Here's what tips me off to the fact that their intentions are nefarious:

"The national press, including United Press International (UPI), were excluded from yesterday's event, at Mr. Tenet's request, organizers said. "
